Has the Recession Affected Script Sales?
Lot of chatter on the web about how the recession may, or may not, be affecting script sales in Hollyweird. So, I decided to do a little research. I analyzed script sales for January and February for the last three (3) years. Here’s what I found:
2007 - 138 sales
2008 - 116 sales
2009 - 151 sales
Hmmmmm. Recession? Of course the $64,000 question is – as it always is – how many of these scripts actually get produced.
What’s your opinion on the Recession –vs- Hollywood question? Let me know, and
Keep Writing!
Hi, Mike:
I was just talking with my manager on the phone the other day, and she mentioned that, for the first time in her career, development execs are coming to her looking for new material. She added that she’s finding it hard to keep with the demand for new material.
Who knew?
Of course, this is great news for writers. I hadn’t noticed things slowing down around here, especially as where I live is just about half a mile from a very popular filming place near the Santa Monica Mountains. We get tons of production trucks, star trailers, and limos driving by our house on a weekly basis for film and television shoots, and it’s a good, anecdotal indicator of how the biz is going.
Anyway, interesting post. Thanks for the discussion topic.
